When Guardian Angel Homes took over what was formerly Rose Arbor Assisted Living Community three months ago in Hermiston, administrators goal was to make it as home-friendly as possible.

Administrator Jennifer Baus said her parents, Marty and Cindy Frantz, started the assisted living organization about 17 years ago in Post Falls, Idaho.

My family started Guardian Angel Homes because my grandparents needed care, Baus said. At that point, there were mainly bigger institutions and not family home environments. We want to help others and treat everyone like family.

Since, the organization has expanded to Lewiston, Idaho, Liberty Lake, Wash., Richland, Wash., and now Hermiston.

Guardian Angel Homes staff invited community members to an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday. Visitors were also invited to tour the facility. Approximately 100 people attended the event. Baus said they also had a lot of people who were interested in utilizing their services.

We are very blessed to have this facility, she said. We have a great reputation within the communities that we serve. We give excellent resident care.

Baus said the organization has two nurses on staff and offers medication management and, with the help of their dietitian on staff, offers specialized diets.

She said administrators are also planning to expand to include Alzheimers and dementia services.

We offer very little care all the way up to a lot of care, Baus said. We also offer a variety of activities and transportation to doctors appointments.

Baus said there has been some slight remodeling to the facility, including some outside improvements and some inside improvements to its 32 suites, which combined, has a capacity for 40 residents.

She said scattered about the facility are also photos purchased from the Umatilla Historical Society to give it an extra homey feel.

Baus said the facility is now taking reservations for a few openings. As of Thursday, she said there were two openings.

We did many tours and have many interested people, she said of Wednesdays open house. It was a great turn out.

Baus said she is excited to bring the services of Guardian Angel Homes to Hermiston.

We are here to provide care for the elderly in a family home-like environment, she said.
