Frederick William “Bill” Hensel

HERMISTON Frederick William “Bill” Hensel died on Aug. 16, at his home in Hermiston at the age of 68.

He was born on November 13, 1938 in Pendleton to Rudolph and Betty Ralph Hensel. He was raised in Hermiston and Buckley, Wash., where he graduated from White River High School. Bill then joined the United States Air Force and served from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1960. Bill married Shirley A. Voorhees on Dec. 30, 1977 in Kennewick, Wash. They lived in Hermiston and Bill worked as a truck driver for Interstate Trucking and later for Wal-Mart until his retirement in 2001.

He was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Bill was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing guitar, caring for his yard and garden, and watching movies. He loved spending time around the campfire in his backyard and visiting with family and friends. Bill really enjoyed his special dog, Hank.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hensel, Hermiston; daughters, Cheryl Stensrud, Hermiston, Carie Brosnan, Heppner, Jana Smith, Hermiston, and Jami Hensel, Kennewick, Wash.; sister, Diane Madden, Ohio; brothers, Rick Hensel, Gervais, and Bob Hensel, Hermiston; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
