When Echo Bike and Board owners Shayne and Stephanie Myers decided to move their business this spring, their goal was to expand.
The Myers moved to Stanfield in March so they could attract more business and feature more merchandise.
We really liked Echo, Stephanie Myers said. It has a strong downtown community. We just out-grew our space.
Myers said their space in Echo had limited window space opportunities and was just too small for where they wanted to take their business. When they went searching for a different location, they couldnt find a business space large enough for what they wanted available in Echo.
We started looking at available buildings, she said. We would have liked to have stayed in Echo, but there just wasnt anything open.
The couple looked in several area cities, including Stanfield, Pendleton and more for possible store fronts and spaces, and chose Stanfield because it wasnt too expensive. The store front also provided the perfect amount of window space and general space to operate the business.
Since moving, the Myers have more than doubled their business and customer base. Stephanie Myers said whereas they were busy mainly on Friday and Saturday in Echo, now their shop is busy all four days it is open during the week. She said that the business is situated at 135 Coe Ave., right off of Highway 395, has helped them.
We get people that just stumble upon us, she said.
Myers said Echo is a more destination kind of town, with people traveling there for specific reasons. She said in Stanfield, people are constantly driving through and either are reminded that the store is there or see it for the first time and decide to stop in.
Its funny because Echo is only two miles up the road, but some people consider it to be really out of the way, she said.
Stephanie Myers said they also receive a lot of repeat customers from Irrigon, Hermiston and more. She said they have built lasting relationships through their business and established a brand that people now recognize, which is why they wont change their name to suit their new location.
Myers said their new location has allowed them to feature a new line of bicycles. She said they feature a full line of SCOTT mountain bikes, which they simply didnt have the room for in their old shop. She said they also feature a line of really affordable beach cruiser bikes, a line of road bikes, BMX bikes, some new running equipment, mainly geared toward visibility, in addition to regular biking and skateboarding merchandise.
The beach cruisers start at $199, and the mountain bikes start at about $600. Stephanie Myers said people can also get a pretty nice road bike for about $1,000.
The Myers said they also offer a number of services, including custom bike services: They can build a bike from scratch with the specific parts people, want or they can customize bikes using unique parts. In addition, they offer tune-ups, flat tire repair, flat tire proofing, general bike repair, wheel trimming, cleaning and more. She said, because they can get parts delivered overnight, most bike repairs can be done in 24 hours.
