I, for one, am not a fan of the Greater Idaho movement. Look what just happened in Coeur d’Alene with the basketball players from Utah. I don’t want to live in a state that’s living in the past.

In a time and place of complicated growth and assessment, I would like to add my name to those endorsing Phil Hamm for District 4, Umatilla Electric Cooperative Board candidate. In a field of highly qualified candidates, Phil’s steady hand and experience will continue to serve the owner-members of Umatilla Electric in a consistent manner with continuity.

I have known Phil for multiple decades and have witnessed his tireless efforts to research, discover and listen to complex issues and bring forth solid solutions or bring confidence to collaborative paths forward.

Without hesitation, I believe Phil is the right candidate at the right time for the right reasons.

Hereford cattle were bred for their efficiency in turning grass into high-yield beef, with high protein levels and other essential nutrients. They are also hardy and resistant to disease.

An added plus is that Herefords control fuel for wildfires, thus mitigating the impact these fires have on global warming and the destruction of homes, other buildings, infrastructure, wildlife habitat, attendant erosion, damage to waterways and fisheries, and so forth.

A big plus in my book is their grazing helps expose rattlesnakes to birds of prey and absent-minded guys going for a hike, hopefully with a fishing pole in hand.

In other words, Herefords are livestock anyone concerned with the environment should celebrate. And they are not alone.

Arguably, Herefords do more to protect the environment than “climate alarmists,” and they are not known to say, “How dare you!”

Stewardship.
